Lincoln softball drops a pair

ST. JOSEPH - The Lincoln softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games with Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opponents Friday.

In the first game of the day, Lincoln fell behind 4-0 before dropping a 4-2 decision to the Emporia State Lady Hornets.

Emporia State got one run in the bottom of the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to get all the runs it would need.

The Blue Tigers got both of their runs in the sixth, as Lauren McMinn scored on an error and Erin Sommerer singled in Clair Lorenz.

Sommerer had two of Lincoln's six hits to go with the team's lone RBI. Haley Bartow had a double for the Blue Tigers.

Kristina Hein started and took the loss. She gave up four earned runs on six hits and two walks in 32⁄3 innings.

Clair Lorenz pitched the final 21⁄3 innings and did not allow a hit while striking out one.

In the nightcap, Missouri Western used a five-run third inning to rally from a 2-1 deficit on the way to an 8-3 win over the Blue Tigers.

Each team scored a run in the second, Lincoln's coming on a solo home run by Starr McLeod.

In the top of the third, Lincoln went up 2-1 when Bartow stole home. But the game got out of control with the Griffons' five-run uprising in the bottom of the frame.

Single runs in the fifth and sixth gave the Griffons an 8-2 lead.

Lincoln closed out the scoring in the seventh when Bartow tripled and scored on a single by McMinn.

Bartow went 3-for-3 to account for almost half of Lincoln's seven hits and was the only Blue Tiger with multiple hits in the game.

The Blue Tigers are now 9-6-1 and are off until Wednesday, when they host Rockhurst in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
