Tuesday, March 19, 2013
Fire investigators were not able to determine the cause of a two alarm fire that destroyed a home in eastern Jefferson City, Monday afternoon.
According to Jefferson City Fire Department reports, the fire at 200 McKinley St. was called in just before 3:30 p.m.
No adults were at home at the time of the fire, but children who were there were able to get out safely.
Firefighters arrived to find the back porch fully engulfed in flames and that’s where they believe the fire started.
The fire then spread up into the roof and through the rest of the home.
Crews fought the fire initially from the outside and then moved inside, but had to back outside due to safety concerns.
Off-duty personnel were called in to man stations around town while crews fought the blaze.
Fire fighters were on the scene until the early evening putting out hot spots.
The damage estimate was $80,000.
