2 charged in weekend drug raid

A search warrant in Maries County over the weekend has resulted in felony charges against two suspects, and possible charges against a third.

In Maries County, Belle resident Joseph J. Fernandez, 26, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a class B felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Fernandez remains in the Maries County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The Maries County prosecutor has also added additional charges on Donald James Green, 29, of Belle for possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Green, who was on parole for distribution of controlled substances, had his bond set at $50,000.

Green also is wanted out of Jefferson City for parole violations, and is a wanted suspect out of Kansas City, Platte County, Pettis County, and the City of St. James. He has been evading law enforcement for nearly one and a half years.

The third suspect was released pending formal charges, which could be filed later this week.

The charges stem from a search warrant execution early Saturday by members of the Maries County SWAT team at 807 Highway 28 West near Belle. The team was assisted by the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group and the members of the Belle Police Department.

Investigators found suspected controlled substances, including items packaged in a manner which is common for the distribution of controlled substances, numerous items related to the sales and distribution of controlled substances, and several items of suspected drug paraphernalia.
