Missouri softball takes three from Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. - The Missouri softball team finished off the Mississippi Rebels in fine fashion Sunday, closing out a three-game series sweep with a no-hitter in a 12-0, five-inning win.

The Tigers, ranked eighth in the nation, used two pitchers in the no-hitter.

Chelsea Thomas (7-1) worked the first three innings to get the win, as she struck out four in her time in the circle. Lindsey Muller worked the final two, striking out three.

The Tigers started the contest with three straight four-run innings.

The highlight of the first inning was a two-run homer by Kelsea Roth, her eighth of the season.

In the second, Missouri made it 8-0 thanks to a sacrifice flies by Jenna Marston and Muller, a fielder's choice by Corrin Genovese that drove in a run and an RBI double by Angela Randazzo.

The lead ballooned to 12-0 in the third, as a two-run single by Alyssa Cousins was the big hit in the inning.

In the fifth inning, Marston earned the 116th walk of her career to move into the No. 1 spot in Missouri history. The base on balls broke her tie with Jen Bruck (2005-08) for the top spot on the list. However, Hudson is just two behind with 114 career walks.

The Tigers will play Illinois on Wednesday in a neutral-site doubleheader hosted by Lindenwood University in St. Louis. The games are scheduled to begin at 4 and 6 p.m.
