MONTREAL (AP) - Patrice Bernier and Marco Di Vaio scored first-half goals and the Montreal Impact beat Toronto FC 2-1 on Saturday to improve to 3-0.
The Impact, who opened with wins in Seattle and Portland to match their total road victories last year, became the first Major League Soccer team to win three games this season.
Bernier scored 34 minutes in after Toronto's Ashtone Morgan fouled Andres Romero in the penalty area. Bernier, Montreal's MVP last season, hesitated on his penalty kick and sent Reds goalkeeper Joe Bendik diving to his right before putting the ball into an open right side. Di Vaio made it 2-0 just before the half. Davy Arnaud sent a ball forward for Di Vaio, who scooted around Bendik to score.
Robert Earnshaw scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute for Toronto (1-2-0).
TIMBERS 1, SOUNDERS FC 1, TIE
SEATTLE (AP) - Rodney Wallace came open in the penalty box and headed in the tying goal at the beginning of second-half stoppage time, and Portland came out of Seattle with the draw.
Eddie Johnson tapped in a perfectly placed cross from Steve Zakuani in the 13th minute and Seattle (0-1-1) held the lead until Wallace scored right at the end of the 90 minutes as stoppage time was beginning. Seattle failed to clear the ball from danger and Andrew Jean-Baptiste's centering pass found Wallace completely uncovered.
The matchup of the Cascadia foes was the centerpiece of what Major League Soccer dubbed "Rivalry Week." And it was Portland (0-1-2) getting an important draw in the competition between the Sounders, Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps for the Cascadia Cup.
RAPIDS 1, REAL SALT LAKE 1, TIE
SANDY, Utah (AP) - Alvaro Saborio scored late in the second half to help Real Salt Lake rally for the tie with Colorado Rapids in the first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup rivalry series.
Deshorn Brown had a late first-half goal for the Rapids (0-2-1).
Salt Lake (1-1-1) earned a key point as it tries to win the rivalry series for the seventh straight year.
Colorado lost starting goalkeeper Matt Pickens in the third minute when he broke his right forearm defending Kyle Beckerman's corner kick. Pickens poked away the ball as it hooked toward the goalmouth and RSL defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe headed his right wrist. The goalkeeper crumpled to the ground in front of the goalmouth, was helped off the field and taken to a hospital.
D.C. UNITED 0, RED BULLS 0, TIE
HARRISON, N.J. (AP) - Bill Hamid made eight saves for D.C. United (1-1-1), including a diving save on Brandon Barklage's shot off a corner kick in stoppage time, which came close to crossing the goal line.
New York, in its first season under coach Mike Petke, is 0-1-2 after allowing late goals at Portland and San Jose. New York outshot D.C. United 23-4, with Thierry Henry putting five of 10 attempts on goal.
EARTHQUAKES 1, CREW 1, TIE
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Justin Morrow scored in the 74th minute to pull San Jose even with Columbus.
Morrow scored for the first time since May 2, firing a rising strike from 18 yards that landed in the upper right corner. Unmarked at the left of the box, he scored off a pass from Ramiro Corrales.
The Crew (1-1-1) took the lead in the 68th minute when Brazilian defender Glauber scored his first goal in his third MLS game, converting a diving header off a corner kick by Federico Higuain.
San Jose (1-1-1) almost opened the scoring in the 61st minute, but Chris Wondolowski's shot from inside the penalty area was cleared off the goal line by defender Chad Marshall.
UNION 1, REVOLUTION 0
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Jack McInerney scored in the 76th minute for Philadelphia against New England in cold conditions.
McInerney also scored the winning goal in the Union's last game, a 2-1 victory Sunday at Colorado.
The Union improved to 2-1-0 and are 5-0-3 in against the Revolution in franchise history.
New England was coming off a 1-0 victory at Chicago in its opener. Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis sat out Saturday because of a groin injury and was replaced by Bobby Shuttleworth.
FIRE 0, SPORTING KANSAS CITY 0, TIE
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Chicago managed to earn its first point in three games this year despite remaining scoreless, tying Sporting Kansas City.
Chicago (0-2-1) looked poised to break its scoring drought when Dan Paladini got free in front of Sporting's goal in the 90th minute, but Jimmy Nielsen made the sliding save to preserve his first shutout of the year. Sporting (1-1-1) went scoreless on 20 shots in its home opener.
