Central Oklahoma sweeps doubleheader with Lincoln

EDMOND, Okla. - One a blowout, the other a walk-off.

Both were losses for the Lincoln baseball team Saturday afternoon, as the Blue Tigers were swept by Central Oklahoma.

Central Oklahoma scored early and often in the opener.

The Bronchos plated a run in the bottom of the first on a throwing error, added five more in the second and three more in the third. A sac fly in the fourth and a solo homer in the sixth capped the scoring.

Darren Lasley took the loss, tossing two innings and allowing seven earned runs on two hits and six walks. Joshua Register pitched the next three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits. Josh Kennedy tossed the final inning, allowing the home run.

Lincoln only managed four hits in the contest.

The nightcap was much more exciting. Lincoln staged a ninth-inning rally to tie the game, only to lose in the bottom of the inning.

Down 4-1 entering the ninth, the Blue Tigers score on a fielding error, a sac fly and another fielding error.

Central Oklahoma won it with a two-out base hit to center field.

Lincoln took the game's first lead with an RBI groundout from Brad Wright in the sixth. Central Oklahoma responded with a pair of run in the bottom half of the frame. The Bronchos then added a run in both the seventh and eighth.

Colby Shepherd, Andrew St. Pierre and Caleb Kemna all collected two hits for Lincoln.

Clint Cashen took the loss, pitching the final 1 2/3 innigns while allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits. Joe Jungmeyer was the starter for Lincoln, tossing 5 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Josh Kennedy tossed 1 1/3 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits.

Lincoln (2-10, 2-7 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) and Central Oklahoma (12-6, 11-6) close their series Sunday at noon.
