Missouri routs Truman State in baseball

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri is headed toward Southeastern Conference play with a bit of momentum.

The Tigers used an eight-run fifth inning to down Truman State 14-4 on Wednesday for its fourth win in the last five games.

Missouri led 4-0 in the fourth when it broke the game open with eight runs and seven hits. The first seven batters reached base for Missouri in the inning which included an RBI double from Josh Lester and a two-run single by Jake Ivory.

Truman State got on the board with two runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth. Missouri added single tallies in the sixth and seventh and outhit Truman State 13-8.

Dillon Everett, Dane Opel and Case Munson all had two hits for Missouri. Scott Sommerfeld and Josh Lester had three RBI each.

Griffin Goodrich picked up the win, allowing three hits in four shutout innings.

Logan Siegler (Fatima High School) struck out two and did not allow a hit in one inning of relief for Truman State.

Wednesday’s game was a late add to the schedule, as both teams lost several games due to the recent snowfall.

Missouri (5-7) steps up the competition this week as it opens SEC play against fifth-ranked South Carolina at Taylor Stadium. The three-game series kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday.

Truman State (2-12) continues its season in Jefferson City at 1 p.m. today with a doubleheader against Lincoln.
