Lincoln softball splits

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Lincoln softball team ended its Spring Break trip with a split.

The Blue Tigers went 1-1 against West Florida on Wednesday in the Spring Fling.

Lincoln rallied to win the first game 3-1. The Blue Tigers trailed 1-0 early but got a run in the fifth and two in the top of the seventh to pick up the victory.

Lincoln picked up a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Joey Bunch to tie the score at 1.

Lauren McMinn gave Lincoln a 2-1 lead with on a fielder's choice in the seventh. That was followed by an RBI single by Erin Summerer to give Lincoln some insurance.

Joey Bunch had three hits and Clair Lornez added two hits for the Blue Tigers.

Lorenz picked up the victory allowing one run and six hits in the complete game.

Lincoln dropped a 7-4 decision in the nightcap. The Blue Tigers fell behind 6-0 before rallying for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Sam Kircher scored on a wild-pitch, Haley Bartow hit a three-run double to left field to cut the lead to 6-4.

But that was all the offense the Blue Tigers could muster as West Florida added an insurance run in the seventh.

West Florida outhit Lincoln 10-7 and the Blue Tigers committed three errors.

Jessica Thomsen took the loss. She allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits in one inning.

Lincoln (6-3-1) opens the home season Monday with a doubleheader against Lindenwood. The first game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
