Holts Summit fire district receives two grants
Wednesday, March 13, 2013
The Holts Summit Fire Protection District has been awarded two grants for firefighting equipment.
Assistant Chief Lisa Wehmeyer coordinated the grant applications for the district and said the department has been awarded $117,950 for the purchase of voice pagers and self-contained breathing apparatus.
Wehmeyer also said these grants are approximately 50 percent of the department’s annual operating budget.
The voice pagers will be purchased with funds awarded by the Missouri Department of Conservation and matching funds provided by the district.
These pagers are the primary devices used by 911 dispatch to notify district personnel of a call for service.
The self-contained breathing apparatus will be purchased with funds awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance To Firefighters Grant Program.
Self-contained breathing apparatus are worn by fire service personnel when entering a hazardous atmosphere, such as a structure fire, to provide a safe breathable air supply.
