Missouri rips Jackson State

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri baseball team scored early and often Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers scored seven runs in the second inning and two in the third to knock off Jackson State 9-3 at Taylor Stadium.

The first four batters of the second inning reached base as the Tigers scored their seven runs on just four hits, benefiting from two errors, a walk and a hit batter. The Tigers did not record an extra-base hit in the inning.

Missouri added a pair of insurance runs in the third.

Alec Rash picked up the win in his first career start. He struck out seven and allowed one run on one hit in four innings.

Three relievers combined to close out Jackson State.

Dylan Kelly, Case Munson and Logan Person had two hits each for Missouri.

Missouri outhit Jackson State (9-7) only 9-6, but Jackson State committed five errors and Missouri took advantage with four unearned runs. Jackson State scored two runs in the eighth.

Missouri (4-7) faces off against Truman State at 4 p.m. today at Taylor Stadium.

The Tigers open Southeastern Conference play with a three-game series against defending national champion South Carolina on Friday.
