Jefferson City communications manager resigns

By Madeleine Leroux

A second Jefferson City official has resigned today, in the midst of a $1.68 million budget shortfall.

In a statement released through Communications Manager Michelle Gleba, the city announced Gleba has submitted her resignation, effective March 26.

Gleba did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Gleba began with the city in March 2010 as the city's first communications manager. She earned a salary of $57,000.

Gleba is the second Jefferson City official to resign today, as Public Works Director Roger Schwartze also submitted his resignation, which will be effective April 1. It is unclear whether Gleba's or Schwartze's position will be filled after they leave. The city is discussing a hiring freeze to last until the end of fiscal year 2014 and both positions may remain open until then.
