The Jefferson City Rugby Football Club opened its season Saturday with a 35-7 loss at home to the Parkway United Rugby Club.
Parkway United opened the scoring with a run down the sideline and score in the corner to make it 5-0.
The Jefferson City defense committed several penalties and Parkway United added two more uncoverted tries to lead at halftime by a 15-0 score.
Parkway opened the second half with a quick try to extend its lead over the Nightmare to 20-0.
Jefferson City finally got on the scoreboard with a long run up the middle of the field by freshman flyhalf Patrick Romph, who also converted the score to cut the deficit to 20-7.
Parkway answered Jefferson City's score quickly to with another try to make it 25-7, then finished the scoring with a drop goal and converted try.
With Jefferson City boasting a roster full of new players, a third period was played to get the local players more playing time. Parkway again got the better of the scoring, winning 17-0.
Jefferson City's next game will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Priory High School in St. Louis.
