Chamois to play for title

COLUMBIA — The Chamois Lady Pirates will be playing for a Class 1 basketball state championship.

The Lady Pirates moved into Saturday’s 8:40 p.m. title game with a 62-39 win against Mercer on Thursday night.

Chamois (23-7) was led by Miranda Brandt, who racked up 23 points and 14 rebounds.

University of Missouri signee Sierra Michaelis dropped in a game-high 27 points for Mercer (28-2) before fouling out with 5:06 left in the game. She now needs 51 points in her final game to become the all-time leading scorer in Missouri history.

Chamois advances to take on Walnut Grove (29-2), a 66-42 winner over Chadwick in Thursday’s first semifinal.

Chadwick (25-6) will play Mercer (28-2) at 8:20 p.m. Friday for third place.
