Man in custody after explosion shakes buildings

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A 49-year-old man is accused of detonating an explosive device near a south St. Louis County business.

Prosecutors on Friday charged Joseph Wambach, accusing him of setting an explosive device outside an Avon store on Tesson Ferry Road. He is jailed on $20,000 cash-only bond.

The explosion Thursday night shook buildings and shattered glass, but no one was hurt.

St. Louis County Police spokesman Randy Vaughn says Wambach placed the device outside the store, then walked into a neighborhood bar. He was taken into custody later Thursday. Police say he resisted arrest.

A motive has not been determined.
