Teen gets probation in vehicle break-ins

A Jefferson City teen was placed on five years supervised probation after pleading guilty to charges in connection with several vehicle break-ins in April 2012.

Joshua Cooper, 18, of 3825 Del Ray Ave., was charged with stealing a firearm and felony stealing.

He must also serve 90 days shock detention.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the break-ins occurred in the area of South Capistrano and Carmel Drive.

One of the victims on Carmel Drive reported two guns were stolen from his vehicle, along with other items such as electronics, motorcycle gear and clothing items.

Other vehicle owners reported money, keys and garage door openers taken from their vehicles. Officers found blood at the scene of one of the break-ins and took samples for DNA evidence.

A few days after the break-ins, an officer saw a suspicious person run into the woods in the area of Del Ray and Terra Bella.

This led investigators to Cooper's residence where several of the stolen articles were located. Cooper was not at the residence at the time.

A few days later, Cooper's parents brought him to the police department.
