Council to approve contract for new sidewalks

Project to extend sidewalks farther down Missouri Boulevard

The Jefferson City Council is expected to approve a contract Monday to construct new sidewalks along Missouri Boulevard.

The bill would authorize a contract with J.C. Industries for $457,868, though 80 percent of the cost will be covered through a state transportation enhancement grant and the remaining balance would come from the city's half-cent capital improvement sales tax.

If approved Monday, the project will construct sidewalks along the southern side of Missouri Boulevard from Heisinger Road to the eastern driveway of the Kohl's development. It also would include sidewalks along the eastern side of Heisinger Road from Missouri Boulevard to the Greenway trail, and along the eastern side of Stadium Boulevard, where it will connect to the existing sidewalk at Target.

In other business, two bills will be introduced Monday to rezone a property on Missouri Boulevard and approve an accompanying preliminary Planned Unit Development plan for a new car dealership operated by Corwin Automotive Group.

The new facility would house the Corwin Honda dealership on the south side of Missouri Boulevard, east of Hobbs Road. It also would include a full vehicle service department and detail shop.

The rezoning and PUD plan were approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this month.
