Your Opinion: Foreign owners of farm operations

Dear Editor:

I would like to comment on the AP news item by Alan Scher Zagier published in the News Tribune June 19 titled "Missouri moves to lift ban on foreign farm owners."

My question to our esteemed public servants would be: If this happens and foreign conglomerates have any control over our farmland, when food shortages occur whom do you think will get priority when it comes to deciding where to send the food? If you think it will be to make sure the citizens of Missouri and the U.S. will come first, forget it.

Another question if this happens: Who on earth thinks our government, which seems now to be totally driven by greed, corruption and incompetence, would ever be able to control the ownership to 1 percent?

Think how well our politicians and bureaucrats have kept our military secrets from the Chinese. Do you think they are going to consider our food requirements important enough to confront the Chinese government over any concerns?

Give me a break.
