Post 5 Seniors now 18-0 on the season

WASHINGTON - Eighteen up, 18 down.

The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors have now won 18 straight to start their summer campaign, as the latest was a 12-7 win gainst House Springs on Friday in the Washington Wood Bat Showcase.

After each team scored a run in the first inning, Post 5 broke it open with six runs in the top of the second.

The lead reached 9-1 in the top of the fourth before House Springs cut it to 9-5 after five innings.

But the local club got two in the sixth and one in the seventh before House Springs closed out the scoring with two in the bottom of the seventh.

Seth Lehmen worked the first four innings to get the win, scattering 10 hits. He gave up five earned runs and struck out four while walking one.

Corey Beard finished up, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one strikeout in three innings.

Patrick Schnieders had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs for the winners. Trevor Schnieders added four hits and one RBI, Cole Distler and Nolan Bax had three hits and one RBI apiece, and Connor Hager had two hits and one RBI.

The Seniors continue the event with a game at 5 p.m. today.
