Area man charged with robbery

A Jefferson City man has been charged in connection with this week's robbery of a convenience store in the Capital City.

Joseph Cooper, 21, 815 Western Air Drive, has been charged with second-degree robbery.

A Jefferson City police report shows Cooper entered Break Time, 1940 W. Main St., just before midnight Thursday, looking like he was going to pay for an item.

When the store employee opened the cash register, Cooper took approximately $200 and resisted efforts by the employee to stop him.

Cooper fled the area while being chased by the employee.

During the robbery, Cooper's shirt and necklace were torn from him by the employee and were later collected as evidence.

Video surveillance images from the store were shown by local media and helped identify Cooper as the suspect.

Cooper was also identified by a tip phoned in by the public, and members of Cooper's family contacted police to confirm his identity.
