Farmers market to debut Saturday in Holts Summit

The first farmers market in Holts Summit will debut at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hibernia Park, next to the Holts Summit City Hall on South Summit Drive.

City Administrator Brian Crane said the farmers market is the result of several people asking for such a market, but there were

problems finding a location and an organization to sponsor the market.

Crane said after the city purchased a building and large parking lot next to the Holts Summit City Hall, the Board of Aldermen decided to host the farmers market at Hibernia Park next to City Hall.

"We have more parking available now that would be close to the farmers market," Crane said.

Crane said any farmer-vendor wanting to participate can fill out an application at City Hall.

He said vendors wanting to participate can sell home-grown fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs, flowers, baked goods, jellies, jams and honey.

Vendors need to sign a liability waiver and provide product liability insurance.

"Most farmers already have this," Crane said.

The fee is $5 for a single space and $10 for a double space.

Crane said the new Holts Summit farmers market will be open every Saturday afternoon 1:30 to 4 p.m. through October.

"Next year the Holts Summit farmers market will begin at the start of the growing season and continue through October," Crane said.

Crane said he is hoping that vendors participating in the Lincoln University farmers market on Saturday mornings in Jefferson City will then come to Holts Summit to sell their products at the farmers market on Saturday afternoons.
