JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation requiring all Missouri colleges and universities to develop screening programs for tuberculosis.
The bill provides for targeted testing to identify those at high risk for latent infection and for developing the disease. It also would determine those who would benefit from treatment.
The measure was one of several signed by the governor Wednesday.
Another bill will let pharmacists dispense a small, emergency dose of prescription medicine if the prescribing doctor is unavailable. The pharmacist must believe that depriving a patient of the medication would cause health problems, and the medication cannot be a controlled substance.
Other legislation signed Wednesday includes a designation of May as "Motorcycle Awareness Month" in Missouri.
