JCPD nabs 452 in Click It or Ticket effort

The Jefferson City Police Department issued 452 traffic tickets for its part in the latest national Click It or Ticket mobilization conducted May 20 through June 2.

Officers issued 72 seat belt tickets; five child restraint tickets; 105 speeding tickets; four driving while intoxicated; 17 driving while suspended/revoked tickets; 18 driving without a valid driver's license tickets; 103 no insurance tickets; and 128 other traffic tickets. There were also five minor in possession violations and one violation for selling alcohol to a minor.

Authorities report that seven out of ten people killed in Missouri traffic crashes are unbuckled.

Missouri's seat belt use has remained

relatively unchanged in the last six years, currently at 79 percent, which is well below the national average of 85 percent.

Teens and pickup truck drivers are among those least likely to buckle up at 66 percent and 63 percent respectively.
