It's been less than a month since Jacob Wadley took over as head wrestling coach at Helias.
So it's understandable if he is still working out some of the kinks that come with the position.
"I'm feeling like the weight is slowly starting to fall off my shoulders," Wadley said prior to Wednesday's session of the Helias Kids Camp at Rackers Fieldhouse. "I'm getting comfortable with the position.
"When I first started, things were a little overwhelming. But I've been able to lay out a path, see what needs to be done today, see what needs to be done tomorrow, and then just concentrate on today."
There wasn't a lot of time for Wadley to get the camp, which has 27 participants in grades 3-8, up and going.
"It's a good turnout, all things considered," he said.
Wadley said the goal of the camp is to teach the basics of wrestling.
"I want them to get used to certain positions," he said. "Even if they don't know all of the moves yet, I want them aware of positions they're in and down the road that will work in their favor.
"It's a basic starting point that we can build off of in things like kids club and in high school. I just want to get them comfortable with the sport and maybe build some friendships."
And one more thing.
"It's been a lot of fun," Wadley said. "Every day, we make sure the kids have fun and have them leave with a big smile on their faces."
The four-day camp is scheduled to conclude today.

On the high-school front, Wadley has met with the team a couple of times since taking over as head coach.
Starting next week, Wadley will be taking a group of Crusaders to St. Louis for the "Wednesday Night Wrestling League," hosted by Maryville University.
Wadley said the high-school camp will be held in August.
