Juneteenth events start Friday

The 2013 Juneteenth Heritage Celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Coca Cola Community Room, 605 Washington St., with the Juneteenth Got Talent competition.

The Father's Day awards banquet is at 2 p.m. Sunday in the ballroom of Lincoln University Scruggs Student Center. Kevin Rome, Lincoln University president, will be the guest speaker.

Other Juneteenth events planned include:

• The Emancipation Program scheduled for 5:30 p.m. June 14 at Lincoln University Soldiers Memorial Plaza and Memorial Hall. The event features the art of Essex Garner.

• The Juneteenth Heritage Festival Grande Stage event is at noon on June 15 with the presentation of Little Mr. and Miss Juneteenth and the talent competition at Ellis Porter Riverside Park. There will also be music, games, and activities.
