Area woman gets 7 years for fatal crash

A Kingdom City woman was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for pleading guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in connection with a fatal car crash on U.S. 54 near Brazito in November 2011.

Marta Vaca, 30, was also charged with second-degree assault and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

A Missouri Highway Patrol report shows Larry D. Huston, 56, Eldon, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Huston was driving a van westbound in the westbound lanes of the four-lane divided highway about a half-mile west of the Route D junction when his vehicle was hit head-on by a pickup truck being driven the wrong way in his lane.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Vaca.

The Jefferson City dispatch center had transmitted an alert to officers to investigate a report of a wrong-way driver on U.S. 54 just a few minutes before the crash occurred.

The drug charges against Vaca are related to a traffic stop by Jefferson City police where a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine was found along with methamphetamine and oxycodone pills.
