Your Opinion: Ignore GOP scare tactics on health care law

Dear Editor:

While this would normally not be something our paper takes seriously perhaps this time is different. It seems that a current GOP plan for our representatives and senator is to schedule scare sessions for folks in Missouri this summer.

Each GOP member of Congress has been given homework from headquarters to schedule town hall style meetings where they are to put forth half-truths and lies about the Affordable Care Act the intention of which is to cause an absolute panic about this law.

The problem is that more and more people are coming to know the benefits that are coming to Americans via ACA. As of right now your insurance can not place caps on your coverage. Your children are able to stay on your insurance until the age of 26, a big help as our young people work toward a more secure financial future. Many preventative diagnostic tests like mammograms are being covered to help us prolong good health. The donut hole for seniors has been closed due to this law.

Now that the health exchanges are coming on line in many states and premiums are dropping the GOP is on a flat-out panic. These folks decided to put themselves behind the eight ball by not taking part in making this law even though many good aspects of it started with Republicans. If anything that is the biggest shame. ACA is going to help millions. It could have been a great time for cooperation but the GOP chose pride first and we all know where that goes.

Now it is time for our young people to get health care coverage. We are a very active mobile society. It costs plenty when accidents like a broken leg happen or even routine visits for a sore throat and the obligatory throat culture. How many young people are told by their dentists to remove their wisdom teeth so as not to ruin orthodontist work? Health care is an absolute must! The young need health care too!

Hospitals will be able to reduce costs for all of us if more people are insured so don't be duped. Enjoy your summer. Ignore the crazy scare tactics. You're smarter than that!
