Temperature hits record low at St. Louis airport

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Temperatures fell to a record low at Lambert St. Louis International Airport, in contrast to the same period last summer when the thermometer hit or came close to 100 degrees three times during the same week.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/15XxSyM) reports the 56 degrees reported just before sunrise Sunday morning broke the previous record low of 59 set in 1977.

The National Weather Service says mild temperatures were expected to continue Monday, with temperatures in the mid-70s before rain comes in the evening.

Temperatures in St. Louis haven’t topped 83 since Wednesday, while last year on that day, July 24, it was 107 degrees.

Meteorologist Ben Miller says even with the recent cool stretch, temperatures in the region are still two-tenths of a degree above normal for July.
