Post 5 Seniors advance

With two wins at zone tournament

MOBERLY, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors took a pair of divergent paths to the winner's bracket final of the Zone 1 Tournament.

On Thursday, Post 5 scored 11 runs in the fifth inning and routed host Moberly Post 6 15-0 in seven innings.

Post 5 sent 17 batters to the plate in the inning, getting seven hits, four walks and a hit-batter in the frame.

Conner Hager had four hits and three RBI for Post 5 in the victory. Dylan Brauner, Daniel Castillo and Nolan Bax all added two hits in a 13-hit Post 5 attack.

Jacob Koelling went the distance to get the victory for Post 5, scattering three hits and six walks while striking out two.

Earlier this season, Moberly (22-10) handed Post 5 its first loss with an 11-10 decision at the American Legion Sports Complex.

On Friday, Post 5 scored three runs in the ninth inning to take a 3-2 decision over Hannibal Post 55.

Post 5 (37-4) will face Washington Post 218 (34-8) in the winner's bracket final at 1 p.m. today. The Post 5-Post 218 winner advances to Sunday's championship round, while the loser will try to remain alive in the double-elimination tournament with a win at 7 p.m. today.

The winner of the zone tournament advances to the state tournament next week in Sedalia.
