Phoenix (9-7) played a third straight game without injured Brittney Griner, but became the first team to defeat Los Angeles at home this season. Penny Taylor scored 16 points and Candice Dupree added 15 points and nine rebounds as the Mercury snapped a three-game slide.

Candace Parker led the Sparks (11-5) with 25 points and 14 rebounds and Kristi Toliver had 16 points. Los Angeles saw its overal six-game winning streak end. Its last regular-season loss at home was on June 24, 2012 to San Antonio.

Sky 75, Liberty 55

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Rookie Elena Delle Donne scored 23 points in a matinee game.

The win gave Chicago sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. It's the latest that the Sky (11-4) have been in first since the team came into the WNBA in 2006. Chicago is still looking for its first trip to the postseason.

The Sky did it without starting center Sylvia Fowles, who missed the game after aggravating a right ankle sprain in Chicago's win over Connecticut last week.

Chicago jumped all over the Liberty, building a 13-0 lead early in the game and never looked back.

Plenette Pierson and Kelsey Bone each scored 11 points to lead New York (6-9), which has dropped five of its last six games.
