SPRINGFIELD - Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter pitched in his first game-action since last postseason.
The former Cardinals ace allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in 22â„3 innings in a rehab start with Double-A Springfield against Arkansas on Monday night. He walked two and struck out five on 54 pitches. He threw 38 strikes.
All three runs for Arkansas came in the top of the second, including a two-run homer.
Carpenter suffered a nerve injury that has slowed his career following after the 2011 season. He announced his retirement before this season due to injuries, but has attempted to overcome them and return to the majors.
There is no timetable on when he might return to the St. Louis Cardinals.
