2 face charges in JCMG burglary

Two Jefferson City residents have been charged with burglarizing Jefferson City Medical Group over the Fourth of July weekend.

Courtney Cox, 31, of 211 McKinley St., and Derek Hawes, 39, of 2215 Julie Lane, are each charged with one count of second-degree burglary.

Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements show Hawes and Cox were seen on video entering the building on West Stadium.

Hawes blocked an open external door which leads to a storage area under a stairwell inside the building.

Hawes exited the facility and returned with a set of tools, while Cox stayed in a vehicle outside.

Hawes and Cox were eventually seen leaving the facility with more than $5,000 in electronic equipment.

The two were arrested a few days before this incident in connection with four other theft cases.

He later admitted that he and Cox were acting together, stealing items to sell for food and narcotics.
