BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors won a pair of games Saturday to capture the title in their pool and advanced to the final of the Firecracker Classic.
Post 5 started the day with a 3-2 win against House Springs.
The local club scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead. House Springs got all its runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Cole Distler twirled a five-hitter to get the win, allowing just one earned run. He struck out eight and walked two.
Trevor Schnieders had a single, double and one RBI to pace the offense, while Patrick Schnieders had two hits and one RBI. Logan Bax chipped in with one hit and one RBI.
Post 5 then raced out to a 7-0 lead over Texarkana, Ark., and cruised to a 7-3 victory.
The Seniors scored two runs in the second, four in the third and one in the fifth. Texarkana got all its runs in the sixth.
Trevor Schnieders tossed a complete game to get the victory, scattering seven hits. He allowed just two earned runs and struck out three while not walking a batter.
Connor Hager had one hit and two RBI for the winners, Nolan Bax had two hits and one RBI, Corey Beard had a double and one RBI and Trevor Schnieders had one hit and one RBI.
Post 5 was scheduled to play for the title Sunday.
