Post 5 Juniors go 2-0 on Saturday

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Juniors went 2-0 Saturday to claim their pool in the Fike Memorial Junior Legion Wood Bat Tournament.

Post 5 defeated Independence 8-2 and Sioux Falls East 6-2 in tournament action.

Logan Vogel was the winning pitcher against Independence, working the first four innings. James Reinkemeyer worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning for Post 5 in relief.

Jaden Barr had three extra -base hits - two triples and a double - and two RBI for the winners.

Sam Hager got the win against Sioux Falls, working six innings and striking out three. Alex Dickneite had worked an inning of relief.

Vogel and Burke Brant had two hits each for Post 5. Brant also drove in two runs.

On Friday, the Juniors knocked off Carlyle (Ill.) Post 404 4-3 in 11 innings.

The Juniors trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the 11th. Hager scored on a passed ball to tie the game and Post 5 won on an RBI groundout by Barr which scored Dylan Hoelscher.

Vogel, Reinkemeyer and Barr all had one RBI for Post 5 during a game which featured four innings of the international tiebreaker.

Sam Bowles pitched nine innings and allowed four hits and one walk while striking out nine. Dickneite picked up the win in relief. He struck out two and allowed two hits.

Post 5 will resume tournament action today.
