BK Bakery is now selling that deep-fried delicacy that seemed to be missing in the Capital City.
Apparently City Editor Gerry Tritz wasn’t the only one craving doughnuts. BK Bakery owner Brandon Kelley said his customers showed a significant interest in the sugary breakfast treat that he didn’t offer.
The local bakery has been open for almost four years. In that time, the employees were asked to track customer interactions, noting how many people came into the storefront without purchasing anything.
They noticed a trend, people wanted doughnuts, and if they couldn’t get them, many left without trying another available item.
“We learned that the number one thing people came in for was doughnuts,” Kelley said. “We recognize that’s what people are wanting.”
BK isn’t able to make the doughnuts themselves, but has them delivered by Jackie Crane, owner of Jamolee’s doughnuts in Fulton. The doughnuts are made fresh each day and are available at BK Bakery Tuesday through Saturday, first-come first-served, in addition to its normal breakfast offerings.
Kelley said he’s wanted to offer doughnuts since he opened, but didn’t have the means to acquire the equipment needed. He said Crane’s product fits with his motto of making a product from scratch and preserving the art of pastry.
“There are many ways I could have gotten doughnuts in here,” he said. However, whatever that was, he knew it needed to follow his motto to be a part of his establishment. He is happy now, to be filling the desire of the community.
The local bakery started selling the doughnuts on Wednesday and announced the new addition on Friday via social media. Kelley said the bakery had never seen such a response on its social media accounts as it did to Friday’s doughnut announcement.
By Friday morning, the bakery had doubled its doughnut sales.
“It boils down to this, I want to give the community what it wants,” Kelley said.
