Probe into policeman's accident continues

The investigation continues after a Jefferson City police officer was seriously injured when he was thrown off his police motorcycle during a traffic accident Thursday.

The officer, who police have not named, was being treated at University Hospital in Columbia. As of Friday afternoon, hospital officials said he was listed in fair condition.

Police report the crash occurred in the 1300 block of Jefferson Street around 5:56 p.m. as the officer was responding to a report of a disturbance involving weapons. The officer lost control of the motorcycle he was driving and was thrown from the vehicle after it left the roadway. A second motorcycle officer at the scene began administering first aid with the help of motorists in the area.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident, and the officer was wearing a helmet at the time, police said.
