Jefferson City Memorial Airport saw a substantial increase in traffic last year, with more than 4,000 additional takeoffs and landings than in 2011.

The airport, which does not offer commercial service, had more than 30,550 takeoffs and landings in 2012, compared with more than 26,130 in 2011, according to a news release.

Ron Craft, Memorial Airport manager, couldn't credit the nearly 17 percent increase to any particular reason.

Roger Schwartze, public works director, said the airport's takeoffs and landings have remained largely consistent throughout the year, making last year's increase all the more significant.
