In the world of sports, the old refrain used to be, “You can’t tell the players without a scorecard.”
In today’s landscape, a more fitting phrase would be you can’t tell the conferences without a scorecard.
While the defections and changes have settled down as of late, that’s just given me a chance to realize how little I know about conference affiliations. The changes themselves make the whole situation seem ridiculous at times. But not so ridiculous as what came out this past week.
Last Wednesday, we received a press release detailing how former Missouri basketball coach Norm Stewart will be honored in March when he’s named — wait for it — an SEC Basketball Legend.
There’s no debating the overall credentials “Stormin’ Norman” had as a coach, or as a player, or even as a baseball player, which he was pretty good at, too.
But there’s plenty of debate when it comes to his credentials as an “SEC” Legend. I did some quick research recently, and as far as I can tell, if you ....
