Architect selected for multipurpose building

Contract not to exceed $571,000

An architect has been chosen for a proposed multipurpose building in Jefferson City.

Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Bill Lockwood said the Parks and Recreation Commission has selected Hastings & Chivetta, an architectural firm out of St. Louis, for the facility.

The multipurpose building is expected to cost about $6 million, which includes site acquisition, architectural fees and building construction.

Why does the city not use a local architect for this proposed building? Seems like our tax dollars should be spent on a local business, not one from St Louis!

Has the green light already been given for this building? The article says a site hasn't been chosen yet.Is the cart ahead of the the horse or does the city have a runaway horse on their hands.Over half a million dollars leaving town for a project that may never be built.

If the City is buying the First Assembly of God church on route c across from Schultes, do they still need to build another building with a few more basketball courts?

How much are they (we) paying for the chuech anyway?

Seems like there are a lot of deals going on that no one knows anything about.I really don't think the new building Lockwood is proposing will be the "convention center" everyone has been anticipating.
