Downtown parking proposal moves to full council

The full Jefferson City Council soon will be presented with an ordinance to establish a downtown residential parking program, more than one year after discussions began.

At the Public Works and Planning Committee meeting Thursday, Operations Director Britt Smith presented a proposed ordinance to establish parking permits for downtown residents in specific zones. The proposal has gone through multiple council committees, as well as downtown business organizations and downtown residents, he said.

How about angle parking again on High St.? You could fit alot more cars in the area, business would get more business, and the meter people could check more meters? It would be a win win for everyone including the resident's by having more parking available to all! Downtown Jefferson City gets by passed if you cannot park! Rob

Might have been possible before they 'streetscaped' uptown. Streets would probably need to be widened.

It worked before they street scaped, the only reason they changed was to force us into the parking garage! The only time I have used the parking garage is at night to go to Bones! It would make more parking for all, and business would get a boost as well! rob

I would guess that spots would be permanently assigned to Jimmy John's?

Looking at old pics of downtown, we used to have lots of angled parking uptown, including Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, East Capitol. I agree- angled parking would nearly double the parking spaces.

They need to do something about all the unused meter parking too. The parking spaces should be used, not sit empty all day.

How about some dedicated motorcycle and scotter parking too?

The city couldn't make the uptown parking anymore unfriendly and worse managed than it is now. They need to have policies to encourage people to come uptown , not discourage them. Parking places should be used not sit empty all day.

City Guy you could get twice as many cars parking by angle style! Then you might park right infront of where you wish to go! rob
