JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The leader of a Missouri House committee says she'll reschedule a 6:45 a.m. hearing on voter ID legislation after opponents of the measure complained.
Next Tuesday's hearing on a bill requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls would have started 15 minutes before the Capitol's front doors are usually unlocked.
House Elections Committee chairwoman Sue Entlicher (ENT'-lih-kur) had scheduled the 6:45 a.m. hearing. The Bolivar (BAH'-luh-vur) Republican said she was just trying to allow enough time for people to testify on the measure before the House goes into session at 10 a.m.
Democratic Secretary of State Jason Kander issued a statement Thursday saying the early hearing would create an unnecessary hardship for people wanting to attend.
Entlicher says the hearing will be rescheduled for 8 a.m. instead.
