Jefferson City officials announced Wednesday that Bill Betts, current information technology services director, has been promoted to assistant city administrator, a position that technically does not exist yet.

The City Council went into what was described as a 21⁄2-hour closed session Tuesday night to discuss personnel, which was expected to result in the hiring of a new finance director. Instead, the new position was announced to replace that of finance director.

The finance director position is a full time job-- not a part-time job. Fill the position with somone who meets the currrent criteria for the position

Our IT person was making $95,000??? How many city managers are making over $100,000? And how many of our JC school administrators make over $100,000.

Why are tax dollars being used to make people rich?

So much for opening the position up and taking apps? Wouldn't that have been the prudent thing to do?

@Gotigers, the News Tribune actually did a story detailing what city officials make and comparing the salaries to other cities around Missouri. It ran Dec. 23. There was a story on page 1A and a related one with a chart on Views, page 9A.
