With all the talk of increased federal regulations on gun ownership, state lawmakers want the General Assembly to place extra protections for Missouri’s residents from some of those federal regulations.
And several hundred Missourians are planning a rally at the Veterans Memorial at 1 p.m. Saturday, on the Capitol’s north side, “to show that we are responsible people who are standing for our (2nd Amendment) rights.”
Thursday morning, state Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, proposed a state constitutional amendment that would add protection of the family as a reason for owning a weapon.

Missouri State Constitution - Bill of Rights - Section 23.
Right to keep and bear arms—exception.—That the right of every citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or when lawfully summoned in aid of the civil power, shall not be questioned; but this shall not justify the wearing of concealed weapons.
No mention of a restriction limiting those arms only to those available fifty years prior. Guess that means the right included ALL arms available at ANY period of time. Whether that meant Caplock over Flintlock or semi-auto over bolt action.

Here goes Kurt again with his chest thumping grandstand act. As if somehow there was any doubt of our right to protect our families with firearms already. Good job Kurt, beat the obvious to death and end your political career that much sooner.

Well he could have a press conference exploiting children that wrote letters about how they're afraid the gov't will take their ability to protect themselves away. Nah, that would be creepy.

Yes it would, and don't be surprised when he does it.

I know and have worked with Kurt. Had Graham not gotten his DUI when he did, Schaefer wouldn't have been elected. Also, a lot of his stint at DNR, where he was under ex-Sen. Doyle Childers, who was appointed by Marvelous Matt Blunt, didn't rear it's head either. A shame, really.
Kurt is really, really good at getting what he wants. He enjoys a sickly-sweet relationship with a lot of obstructionist legal firms, like Lathrop and Gage (Hi Aimee!). When you're a go-to guy for thwarting the peoples' will, and style yourself a "conservative" who represents "the people" then goes to bat for big business, it sort of makes you wonder what conservative means.
He's a savvy businessman and an accomplished attorney. I respect the dude's tenacity, expertise, duplicity, and ability to sleep at night. That puts him nowhere near anybody who is a "regular Joe".
I know he doesn't hunt, and have my doubts as to him owning a weapon--besides a pen.
