JC unveils mobile app for bus riders
Thursday, January 17, 2013
Jefferson City has announced the release of a new app to provide “up-to-the-minute information” for the city’s transit riders.
According to a release, the free app enables users to locate buses on the city’s main bus routes, including Southwest, Capital Mall, Missouri Boulevard, High Street West, High Street East and Business 50 East routes.
“This tool should be particularly helpful to citizens during inclement weather when city buses may be delayed,” said Public Works Director Roger Schwartze. “We hope this app will provide our riders with more convenience as they go about planning their schedules.”
The app is available for both Androids and iPhones, as well as PC and Mac computers, on the iTunes and Google Play markets. App information is only accessible during normal hours of operation for the JeffTran system, which begins at 6:45 a.m. and ends at 5:20 p.m.

I downloaded and tried this app and it works great. More than anything, it'll help with the 40 minute schedule that required more memorization than the old 30 minute schedule. It'll also help a ton during bad weather, allowing riders (you know, those 47%ers who leech off the city's federal trough paid for by decent people working their butts off to support the rest of us Godless scum) to avoid standing while the bus gets delayed. It updates a Google Map and address location list every 30 seconds for the whole primary fleet. Rather than develop their own app, JC has contracted with Fleetmatics, which provides the bus GPS system.

Bus riders are people too. Riding the bus does not mean anything other than riding the bus.Now in most cities people ride so they don't have to pay parking, but in Jeff City Spelchek does it mean something about a persons financial position or character? What does it matter anyway, people ride buses all over the world but that does not mean they are less than anyone else; get a grip.

If I see someone get off the gov't subsidized bus and walk to their gov't subsidized housing and start surfing on their smart phone, then yes, it speaks volumes about their financial position and their character. Jefferson City is not NYC and it's reasons for public transportation are different than a metropolitan city. Do not lecture me on "bus riders are people too" as I am perfectly capable of observation and calling a spade a spade. There are people that utilize public transportation that have their act together, I'm sure of it. There are also those who need food stamps, complain the school isn't feeding their kid enough as they check the bus app (sarcasm, more like Chris Brown or Justin Bieber's latest tweet) on their smartphone. Get a grip indeed.

I'd like to ask the city if the bus routes and stops could be added to the location maps so folks could see where the buses were headed as well as where they are. It would make trip planning a lot easier.

What use is the map without the bus stops indicated? Oh good grief.

when I moved to seattle I gave up my vehicles. I now walk the 5 blocks to work. when I need to go further I use public transportation or to move large items I use the hourly cars. I join the growing generation of people who are vehicle free and happy. I am not poor. since leaving my state job my income has jumped four fold. I applaud the city for expanding services that will only grow in use

Nothing has ever been set up just for the poor, yes get a grip, if it was only for the poor then it would not be in place. Also, I get so sick of all who look down on people who are not like them, no one wants to help anyone anymore. Who cares if anyone is rich or poor, just provide things to help whoever, whenever we can. No one is above anyone else, and yes I just don't get the comparision of people riding the bus as those on food stamps or whatever. The United States is providing help all over the world, why not provide for those in the US that perhaps need help. How about nation building at home, starting right here in Jeff City!
