One person was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after a shooting in the Westview Heights subdivision, just outside the Jefferson City limits.
The Cole County Sheriff’s Department said the incident occurred around 2:25 p.m. at an apartment building in the 5200 block of Collier Court.
A fight between two men over a woman ended with one of the men being shot once in the stomach.
The shooting victim was taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital, where he was “stabilized” and then flown by helicopter to University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital for treatment.
Chief Deputy John Wheeler said the victim was listed in stable condition late Thursday afternoon.
As authorities talked to witnesses, they determined that two shots were fired during the fight, but one of them missed hitting any body.
A search of one of the apartments led to three weapons being recovered, including one that had been reported stolen.
After the fight, the suspect got into a vehicle and tried to leave the area, but a woman tried to stop him.
Officials said she was dragged for a short distance before the vehicle was stopped by authorities.
The driver of that vehicle, another woman, was arrested for second-degree assault.
The suspected shooter was arrested for first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
The shooting victim is not facing charges.
Three vehicles were towed from the scene to be processed for evidence.
Authorities did not release any names of the people arrested or the victim, but did say that they all were Cole County residents.
Sheriff Greg White said the suspects’ names would be released after charges are filed against them.

My heart bleeds for the good residents in Westview. Unbelievable. Its turned into East St. Louis on Collier. We completely moved out of the area and are so glad. The whole JC area is turning into a mess. Life is too short to put up with that mess.

Mia.... We're glad you did.. I use to live in westview heights and have friends that still do. The area may have become skittle rougher due to the local realestate agents devaluing the area.. But it is no where near the blight of East St. Louis.

Where is all the white crime... hmmm??? The article doesn't say who it was yet, I just have a feeling when the names ARE released, I'll still have that same question... it's not prejudice, it's the TRUTH.

The white crime doesn't happen on the street, it happens in the suite.

The poor man steals from another man; the rich man steals from us all.
That's the truth.
Yes, you are prejudiced because you only see what you want to see.

"The poor man steals from another man; the rich man steals from us all." -- What an absurd observation and sexist to boot. The government confiscates money from the middle class and the so-called "rich" ( I call them the productive), spends it all (and then some), gives a fraction to the poor "man", borrows more, then demonizes it's own citizens for not giving more in the name of "fairness". That's the truth.
Lastly, "The white crime doesn't happen on the street, it happens in the suite.".....couldn't be more of a bigoted comment if I ever read one. You are prejudiced because you only see what you want to see.

I lived in Westview years and years ago. It was a good place to raise my kid, he has great memories from it. But even then it had problems. We had a major drug bust one afternoon across the street. A child abduction that no one knew about. But nothing like this. I find it really sad that young adults can't live in peace out there. We moved completely out of the JC area and its almost shocking to sit back and watch whats happening. You all need to get a grip on this before it bleeds over into other areas. I am sorry but the fight on the news devalues the area. My area where I moved from (in another bedroom community) is on the verge of "going south" because of the JC mess moving in and trashing it. I am just concerned about the young working kids that live in the area and have to put up with this. Awful. People and events devalue an area. No one wants to buy in a place like that. You just know when its time to get out and fortunately we could do that.

52% of Murder in the USA is committed by a group that makes up less than 3% of the population. The percentage of rapes committed by this group is higher. Guess each group has their preferred crime huh.

Facts aren't welcome here and besides...it's Bush's fault.

You mean like Black Panther hate? You mean like voter intimidation? You mean like Louis Farrakhan hate? You mean like "get your noise [sic] out of "Mein Kauf" [sic]...hate"? Or perhaps a President that throws his citizens under the bus hate? Aurora, CO hate? New Town, CT hate? Maj. Assad hate? Plenty of hate to go around.

You know this does not suprise me at all! I used to live there. When I moved in it was a nice place to live for me and my daughter, after about 3 years it was getting worse and worse, the cops were called several times over various situations and NOTHING was ever done! I would say maybe this will be a wake up call but it won't! I am just so glad my family and I got away from there.

Boy am I glad I am not so close minded like some of the commenters on this forum...I had no idea what races were involved. In fact it never crossed my mind. The artilce didn't say, and the photo provided has a group of people in it. They could just be neighbors, not the ones involved. I don't see color of skin intil someone points it out. I see a man, a woman, a child, a dude in a blue shirt, lady with a green purse...etc. It's 2013 people, get with it. Crime comes in many shapes, forms and colors.

LOL ya it's racist to point out what group commits most of the crime in this country.
I saw an interesting comment while reading an article about the White girl turned out by the Chicago police a few years back into a bad section of the city. The same girl that just won the 25 million law suite against the city for their actions.
The judge said they might as well have put that girl into the lions den at the zoo but the commenter mentioned that it was very telling that you could have dumped that girl into shark invested waters and NOT had 100% certainty she was going to be attacked. Unlike Chicago where it was a fact before it even happened..
Might as well call someone racist for saying a fire is hot,

Yep, it's racist for the same group of posters to constantly point out that fire is bad because it isn't water.

Thats interesting because I see the same group of "Liberal Conglomerites" (minus a few) as usual with their anti-White racism. I have noted an increase in Conservative posters lately even with the unwarranted removal of Graceful.
The truth wins out.

Westview Heights is the armpit of Cole County. I submit Jefferson City's lack of interest in forcing it into city limits via annexation as exhibit A.

Good Point Spel. Yet they are all over getting those businesses next door in as fast as possible aren't they.

Westview Heights was as predictable when developed as a company town for Callaway nike workers as putting up a tent city. Build cheap and fast, then walk away. It was a dump of cheap, barely code housing from day one. It will be annexed some day, after about half of the housing stock has fallen over and been replaced by better housing.

There isn't a whole lot of difference between the Westview Heights houses and the houses built around Belair School. The construction is poor for both neighborhoods, and both neighborhoods have quickly thrown together houses on small lots that were sold to young families just starting out. Wonder why the crime around the Belair neighborhoods is not nearly as bad as Westview? I don't know the answer- my guess is being inside the city limits and having better police protection is part of the reason. Maybe there is something else?
