Cole County OKs budget, pay increase
Thursday, January 17, 2013
The Cole County Commission on Tuesday approved a $57.2 million budget for 2013 with a 1.5 percent pay increase for county employees.
The $57.2 million budget reflects a 1 percent increase from the $56.6 million in the 2012 budget. Commissioners are already expressing concern about how they’ll be able to address the budget for 2014.
The 2013 budget includes a 1 percent cost of living increase and a 0.5 percent merit increase for all employees, excluding county officeholders. In addition, the top half of the county’s employees, based on performance evaluations, will receive a $400 bonus per year.

Getting any raise is a good thing.I don't understand why the top half should get an additional 400.They already get a larger amount because the1.5% is based on a larger salary. They may have more college etc.But lets face it who really does the work?Just seems like there should be a more fair way to figure it.I guess the top half needs it more because they have bigger homes, nicer cars, and kids in private school. {That should start a fire!}I am glad that the county is able to give raises and applaud the elected officials for not voting themselves one.

Since it says "based on performance evaluations" I take it as the top performers will get the bonus, not the top wage earners.

Not to get too snarky, but rj don't base your entire rant on an issue you misread in the story. It make's your rant about having more education not being an appropriate compensable factor seem really self serving.

County giveth, and the feds taketh away. Thanks to Obama's push to keep payroll tax cuts from being extended, your raise just got partially nullified by a money hungry federal government scrambling to pay for unread laws they passed in a hurry at midnight. Transparency indeed.
