Williams wins two events at Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Going up against fields dominated by Division I runners, Lincoln University's Twishana Williams was up to the task, winning a pair of events in the Saluki Open hosted Friday and Saturday by Southern Illinois University.

Williams outran 22 entrants in the one-mile run, posting a time of 5:01.25, which is a provisional qualifying time for the Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. The next 11 finishers in the race were from Division I schools, and Williams finished more than two seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Williams then got a win in the in the 3,000-meter run, where her time of 10:27.80 was almost 10 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She was the only Division II runner in the race.
