Your Opinion: Not enough guns

Dear Editor:

I never respond nor am I affected by debates concerning religion or politics. You see one is purely based upon faith and the other solely an opinion. But the blind faith and ignorance of an letter concerning gun control by Scott Schilling in the Jan. 9 newspaper floated my boat!

He, like so many other liberals, admits total ignorance of firearms, but has an opinion on whether you or I should possess one. He and other liberals call it extreme to allow teachers to protect themselves and their students but it's perfectly all right for their Hollywood supports to surround themselves with armed guards. Could there be a touch of hypocrisy here?

The type of weapon used by the murderer is not relevant. Why the focus on the instrument instead of the person controlling the instrument leaves me scratching my head. Not only does the Constitution give me the right to bear arms, I do so for the protection of the ones I love and myself.

You Mr. Schilling with your blind faith in the government to protect you would leave yourself and your loved ones to the mercy of the criminals. Police carry weapons to protect themselves, not you. And they will show up to draw those nice chalk outlines around you and your family. That is your choice.

I believe when governments fear the people, there is liberty. When people fear the government that is called tyranny. Comparing government control of weapons with the Civil War and today's gun control is ridiculous. There were not too many guns in that school or theater, there were not enough.
