Superintendent fields questions about new high school plan

Board expected to discuss ballot issue Thursday

Residents who attended a Friday morning coffee klatsch learned a little more about the Jefferson City Board of Education's plans to build a new high school and how that proposal would coincide with the board's intention to implement career academies.

Two other klatschs were held earlier in the week to educate the community about the board's plans.

At Thursday's Board of Education meeting, members are expected to suggest increasing the district's bonding capacity by 30 cents per $100 assessed valuation and raising its operating levy by 25 cents. If approved by the board, voters will decide the issue April 2. Four-sevenths of voters must vote yes to pass the bonds, but the operating levy can pass with a simple majority.
