Jefferson City has licensed an escort service, perhaps the city's first. But city residents might not be welcoming it with open arms.
In fact, the business may not ever have begun. Lonely Heart Companion Services has a website and Facebook page, but two phone numbers associated with the business don't work.
Drew Hilpert, the city's attorney, notes that while it's possible for escort services to operate in a fashion that's within legal limits, the start of such a local business "bears some extra scrutiny."
