Missouri ranks No. 41st in Education Week rankings
Thursday, January 10, 2013
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s public schools are 41st in the country in Education Week’s annual rankings.
The publication released its 2013 “Quality Counts” rankings Thursday. Missouri’s overall grade was a C, up slightly from last year’s grade of C minus.
Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro said in a news release that she’s pleased to see Missouri’s grade inching higher. But she says the state must make greater strides in providing a quality education for all students.
The report examines a number of factors, including elementary reading scores, high school graduation rates, college completion rates and per-student education spending.
Maryland received the highest score in the survey, followed by Massachusetts, New York and Virginia.

WHAAAT???? I thought casinos and the lottery were the saviors of Missouri's public education? Where's the money going? Who has to answer to such dismal ratings? And the dummies scratch their heads wondering how a tobacco tax increase under the guise of helping education won't pass. Get MO up to at the least the top 25 (SHOW-ME) and maybe you'll get your tax increase.

Ranked 41st is probably good enough. At least we know that we can make more cuts and it won't get us to the bottom.

Now we know why our home grown leaders keep making the same mistakes over and over and over!!

With all of the taxes people pay here, Missouri should be in the top 20%. The voters here passed the bingo & lottery without "Ear marking it for schools", so now it goes into the general fund and the schools don't see a dime of ti. Just asked the teachers when they got a nice pay raise! Same thing happens with gas taxes it goes into the general fund and the highways are in need of repair.
